iStock is one of the biggest stock media libraries out there. It sells royalty-free photos, illustrations, videos, and audio. When you download a preview or a free sample, iStock stamps a watermark across the file so you can't use it commercially without a license.

Is iStock content free?

Is it legal to remove an iStock watermark?

Removing the watermark from an iStock file you haven't licensed is a hard no. The content is still under copyright, and stripping the watermark plus using it can land you in DMCA territory, or whatever the equivalent is where you live.

Can AI tools fully restore the original image quality?

No. AI watermark removers don't magically restore the original image. Rather, they estimate and fill in the missing pixels based on what's around them. On simple backgrounds it can look pretty convincing, but it's still a reconstruction, not the real data.
